Driver killed in collision with panel truck
SHEAKLEYVILLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said Darla A. Hunter, 45, of Jefferson Street, Hartstown, was killed when the Jeep she was driving skidded into the path of a panel truck on U.S. Route 19 near the Mercer-Crawford County border.
Police said Hunter was southbound around 9 a.m. Wednesday when she lost control of her vehicle and it spun into the path of a northbound truck driven by Brian Stubbs, 28, of Greenville.
Hunter wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from her vehicle.
Robert L. Snyder, Mercer County deputy coroner, pronounced her dead at the scene at 10:42 a.m.
Stubbs was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. He was treated at UPMC Horizon in Greenville.
He was driving a Health Care Solutions truck that was carrying liquid oxygen and magnesium, according to a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The truck caught fire and the magnesium burned. Authorities feared the liquid oxygen would ignite as well, but it didn't and a work crew was able to safely remove the load, the spokesman said.
The road was closed to traffic until 1:20 p.m.
