Ray paces Villanova over West Virginia
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- Allan Ray scored 20 points to lead Villanova to a 73-58 win over West Virginia on Saturday.
Villanova (12-7, 4-3 Big East) had four others score in double figures: Randy Foye and Will Sheridan has 13 each, while Curtis Sumpter and Mike Nardi each had 10.
Tyrone Sally led the Mountaineers (11-8, 3-4) with 13. Patrick Beilein scored 11 and Dor Fischer had 10.
The teams exchanged leads eight times during the first 12 minutes, but Villanova went on a 19-7 run to take a 39-24 halftime lead. Villanova shot 53 percent from the field in the first half and scored 13 points off of eight West Virginia turnovers.
West Virginia closed to within six at 52-46 with 8:44 to go in the game. But the Wildcats went on an 18-7 run over the next 5:30 to seal the victory.
Villanova's win sets up a Philadelphia Big 5 showdown with cross-town rival and undefeated No. 3 Saint Joseph's on Monday.
