Nominees can be companies, individuals or groups, even schools or institutions, that have been involved in efforts to promote environmental awareness and stewardship or who have made special efforts to improve environmental practices along French Creek or its tributaries in Pennsylvania and New York. French Creek flows through northeastern Mercer County.
Nominations are due March 1; winners will be announced at the annual Creekfest musical celebration in Meadville on April 3. Nomination rules are available by calling the French Creek Project at (814) 332-2946 or on its Web site at http://frenchcreek.allegheny.edu. The French Creek Project works with farmers, landowners and others to preserve the creek.

The New Castle Sanitation Authority is getting an $18,830 Sewage Facilities Planning Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, said state Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th.
The money will reimburse 50 percent of the cost of preparing the authority's official sewage plan and revisions to the official plan required by state law.
The plan must address sewage-disposal needs or problems, account for future land development and provide for future sewage-disposal needs for the entire municipality.
