ICL/TCL BASKETBALL McDonald keeps pace in league race; Sebring maintains lead
The Blue Devils have the best chance of catching Western Reserve.
McDONALD -- James Beedle scored 21 points Tuesday as the McDonald High boys basketball team defeated South Range, 64-34.
The Blue Devils (9-4, 6-2) remain in second place in the Inter-County League standings.
Beedle scored eight points in the first quarter when the Blue Devils took a 16-9 lead. Beedle hit five 3-pointers.
Nick Testa added 14 and Mark Macali added 11 points.
For the Raiders (2-11, 1-7), Jordan Taylor and Danny Holloway each scored six points.
Jackson-Milton 66, Mineral Ridge 50
NORTH JACKSON -- Mark Balent and Zack Nicholas combined for 41 points as the Bluejays rolled.
Balent scored 21 points and Nicholas added 20 points and 11 rebounds for Jackson-Milton (5-7, 3-4 ICL).
Tim Shaw also had 13 points, 12 rebounds and six steals while Andrew Whitmer had seven assists.
For Mineral Ridge (5-8, 3-5), Brandon Linert and Vance Keirsey each scored 16 points while Jason Garland added 12.
Springfield 47, Lowellville 37
LOWELLVILLE -- Springfield (7-7, 4-5 ICL) made 10-of-26 free throws while the Rockets (3-9, 2-5) failed to make any in five attempts.
Lowellville made seven 3-point goals compared to one for Springfield.
Tobey Culler led the Tigers with 13 points while Aaron Wood added 12 and Marc Russell 11.
Vince Broll, with three 3-point goals, and Jack Noble each had 11 points for the Rockets. Broll and Noble pulled down nine and seven rebounds, respectively.
Sebring 56, Crestview 42
COLUMBIANA -- Matt Ferguson scored 18 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as Sebring topped Crestview in a Tri-County League game.
The Rebels, behind 29-20 at intermission, rallied to tie the score 31-31, but the Trojans (13-1, 8-1) bounced back to take a 38-31 lead into the fourth quarter.
Joe James added 13 points and Dan Scarpitti had 12 for the Trojans.
Jason Beachler paced the Rebels (9-5, 4-5) with 18 points. Kade Neiheisel grabbed five of 20 rebounds.
Lisbon 59, East Palestine 41
EAST PALESTINE -- Mike McDevitt took scoring honors for Lisbon with 24 points and nine rebounds as the Blue Devils (11-3, 7-2) remain in the TCL chase.
Lucian Smith chipped in with 18 points. Chris Friend made four steals and Marcus Judy made four assists.
Brett Young and Tom Johnson paced East Palestine (5-10, 4-6) with 22 and 16 points, respectively.
United 54, Columbiana 49
HANOVERTON -- Corey Manfull scored 16 points and Dale Woolf had 13 points and seven rebounds to help United (11-2, 7-2) stay right behind Sebring in the TCL race.
For Columbiana (9-6, 5-4), Austen Couchenour scored 12 points and Eric Bailey 10.
Southern 85, Leetonia 32
SALINEVILLE -- The Indians (7-7, 2-7) rolled to a 49-10 lead by the break.
John Diaz sparked Southern with 24 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Rick Tanner, who had five assists, and Aaron Blatch each had 12 points.
Corey Cramer led the Bears (1-13, 0-8) with 12 points.
