Stolen vehicles
GIRARD -- Charges are expected to be filed Monday against a man after two stolen all-terrain vehicles and a motorcycle were found in his garage. The stolen goods were recovered Thursday from an East Howard Street garage by Champion and Girard police.
Girard Detective John Norman reported that he was contacted by Champion Patrol Officer Jamie Nehrenz, who was doing a follow-up to a break-in at Yamaha of Warren on Mahoning Avenue in Champion last November. Nehrenz reported that some of the stolen items were at the Howard Street address.
Police found five or six ATVs and some motorcycles. The resident led police to the garage, where a motorcycle and ATV stolen from the Champion store were found, along with an ATV stolen in Boardman, the report said.
Guilty in rape, kidnapping
WARREN -- A jury deliberated about two hours Friday before returning guilty verdicts in a rape and kidnapping case. The jury convicted Deavery Lyons, 24, on one charge each of rape and kidnapping. He was, however, acquitted of a charge of cocaine possession.
Shortly after the verdicts were read, members of Lyons' family and some of his friends began yelling at jurors, court officials said. One person was arrested but charges have not yet been filed.
Lyons, of Warren, will be sentenced after a background check. He could receive a life sentence with possibility of parole after 10 years, court officials said.
Prosecutors said the victim in the case was a 12-year-old girl whom Lyons knew.
