COLUMBIANA CORNER Caution: Object in vehicle is not what it appears
You might say a man was packing heat, but it had nothing to do with toting a firearm.
Salem police recently responded to a report of a man possibly brandishing a handgun.
A motorist had alerted them about being behind a vehicle in traffic when the driver held up what appeared to be a firearm in a threatening matter, as though a road-rage episode was about to unfold.
Police stopped the vehicle, searched it and concluded that what had looked like a handgun actually was a pistol-shaped device that applies heat to surfaces being treated with an adhesive.
It's his call
In the days before a recent snowstorm, East Palestine Schools Superintendent Jeff Richardson had no trouble keeping up with weather reports.
As superintendent, Richardson decides if weather conditions are poor enough to cancel classes, the coveted "snow day" in educational circles.
"If I had a dollar for everyone who came up to me to say there was a winter weather advisory, I'd have enough money to retire," Richardson joked.
