Westminster fraternity sponsors drive to donate hair to Locks of Love

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national coed service fraternity, is sponsoring a hair drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the student lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center to benefit children with cancer.
Professional hairstylists will give free haircuts, and the hair will be donated to an organization that makes wigs for children suffering from medical hair loss, said Tracy Blount, a sophomore environmental science major from Edinboro.
Any length of hair can be donated, but anything shorter than 10 inches will be sold to benefit Locks for Love rather than be made into wigs.
Alpha Phi Omega also is sponsoring a contest among sororities, fraternities and independents to see who donates the most hair.
Winners' names will be placed on a plaque donated by Pizza Joe's. The contest is for the most inches of hair donated for girls and the most heads shaved for the guys, Blount said.
Alpha Phi Omega also plans to have at least one massage therapist to relieve tensions associated with the loss of hair.
