Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St., Youngstown, has promoted organist Jeffrey A. Trimble to organist and choir director. A reception will be at noon Sunday at the church. Trimble has 23 years' experience in church music. Since last autumn, he has served as organist and interim choir director. In addition to regular choir rehearsals at 7 p.m. Thursday evenings, he has begun a 6:30 p.m. "School of Singing" to provide extra help for choir members who have difficulty reading music or have limited singing experience. He also works as a computer systems programmer for the Youngstown State University library.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown has appointed the Rev. Robert Miller as parish administrator at St. James Parish, Waynesburg, effective Monday. A Canton native, Father Miller was ordained May 25, 2002. He has been serving as associate pastor at St. Patrick Parish in Hubbard.
The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is accepting nominations for the sixth annual presentation of the Eagle of the Cross Awards. The award from the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry is the highest recognition a diocese can confer on youths for serving their peers and youth ministry. The award is given annually in the diocese to high school juniors and seniors who work to improve their parish youth ministry programs, high school ministry teams or other diocesan ministries. The nominees must be Catholic. Anyone may nominate a youth by completing essay questions on the youth's activities and qualities. Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., will have three speakers as part of the Bible & amp; American Society Lectures. The Rev. Dr. J. Philip Wogaman will speak in Harbison Chapel from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. Thursday and at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Crawford Hall Auditorium. The retired pastor of Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C., is also the retired dean and professor of ethics at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington. Dr. Daniel Dreisbach will speak from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. Feb. 17 in the chapel and again at 7 p.m. in Crawford Hall Auditorium. He is a professor at the School of Public Affairs at American University and a Rhodes Scholar. The Rev. Dr. Harold D. Trulear will speak at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 19 in the chapel and again at 4 p.m. in Crawford Hall Auditorium. The pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Twin Oaks, Pa., has served as a professor at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and is currently an adjunct professor at Howard University Divinity School in Washington, D.C.
Protestant Family Service will have its 33rd annual meeting Feb. 16 at the Renaissance Center Cafeteria, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Entrance A, Youngstown. Fellowship is at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m. The cost is $15.
