Eagle award recipient
John Kocher, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kocher, Sunny Drive, Liberty, recently received his Eagle Scout award at a court of honor at Church Hill United Methodist Church.
He became a member of Troop 42 in 1997, and his Scoutmaster is Bob Keiper. He is a senior at Liberty High School.
His scouting leadership experiences include serving as den chief, assistant patrol leader and patrol leader. He was a recipient of the Arrow of Light while a Cub Scout with Pack 42.
As his Eagle service project, he cleared a pathway and built a bridge in a wooded area for the Montessori School of Mahoning Valley.
He is a member of the school band, plays soccer, and is a member of the National Honor Society.
HONORS
Rev. North lauded
The Rev. Lillie North of Youngstown of Friends House Chapel, Haseltine Avenue, recently was honored by Gov. Bob Taft as a recipient of the Economic Opportunity Award at the 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration, which is conducted with assistance from the Ohio Department of Administrative Services.
The Rev. Mrs. North joined several other people lauded for their efforts to advance nonviolent social change.
Mrs. North, who has been a Baptist minister for more than 20 years, organized the Northstar Patchwork Training Center, at which low-income women are taught to use computers and the Internet to help them market their handmade products.
