YOUNGSTOWN -- A service of healing, including Communion, will be at St. John's Episcopal Church at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The service is open to all.
"This is a service that helps people acknowledge the need for healing of mind, body and spirit, asking that God uphold us and fill us with grace that we may know the healing power of God's love," explains the Rev. John Horner, St. John's rector.
A part of the service in which members of the congregation may take part if they choose is the "healing" or laying-on-of-hands with a suitable prayer.
St. John's Episcopal Church is at 323 Wick Ave., next to the main branch of the Youngstown and Mahoning County Public Library, across from Youngstown State University's Jones Hall. The church is handicap-accessible, and parking is free.

Nonviolent themefocus of gathering
COLUMBUS -- Pastors from around Ohio will explore the theme "Searching for What Saves Us," guided by two scholars with extensive work in nonviolent models of redemption. The event is the Ohio Council of Churches' Ohio Ministries Convocation, scheduled Jan. 24 and 25, at the Columbus Marriott North, 6500 Doubletree Ave.
Early registration cost is: $80 by Jan. 10. After Jan. 10, cost will be $100. Special rates are offered to: life members, retired pastors, spouses, seminary students, as well as attendance to one event and one day. Those interested can also download a registration form from the Web site www.ohcouncilchs.org.
Unity Concert Series
GIRARD -- On Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. the Unity Concert Series held at Unity Church Center presents Tina Bergman and Bryan Thomas. Bergman, who plays the hammered dulcimer, and Thomas, the double bass, will perform songs from their CDs, "All Roads Lead Home" and "These Winter Joys."
"All Roads Lead Home" is based on popular melodies and how language has influenced our culture. "These Winter Joys" is a collection of seasonal music that includes "Ding, Dong, Merrily on High," a 16th-century French dance tune, "Sleigh Ride," "January Waltz" and "Carol of the Bells" arranged by James Wilhousley and Thomas.
The couple will play two sets; during the break they will be available to autograph copies of their CDs.
The concert is provided on a free-will offering basis.

Celebration for Epiphany
BURGHILL -- On Jan. 16 at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Orangeville United Methodist Church will be hosting its 31st annual "Celebration for Epiphany: The Ceremony of the Boar's Head and the Yule Log."

Grief, divorce support
CANFIELD -- Old North Church will hold a grief recovery support group class beginning Jan. 10. The class will meet for 13 consecutive Monday evenings at 7.
The church will also be conducting a divorce workshop that will meet once a week for six weeks. The classes will meet Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. beginning Jan. 26 and ending March 2.
The cost is $20 and is open to the community.

Diocesan Mass of Life
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will preside at the seventh annual diocesan Mass for Life on Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave.
Before Mass, a peaceful vigil of prayer will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. across from the Mahoning Women's Center, 4025 Market St. in Youngstown.
After Mass, the Knights of Columbus Councils 274 and 13586 will host a complimentary spaghetti luncheon at the St. Dominic Parish Center, at 3403 Southern Blvd. in Youngstown.
The annual Mass for Life is an opportunity to gather in celebration of the gift of life and to pray for greater respect for life.
Parishes participating in Catholic Charities' "First Step for a Change," and coordinators within the six-county diocese will be recognized at the conclusion of the Mass for Life.
