YOUNGSTOWN -- First Night Youngstown 2005 will kick off its New Year's Eve celebration of the arts in a tent at 5:30 p.m. today on the northeast corner of Central Square.
The New Year's Eve event marks the fifth anniversary of First Night Youngstown and is expected to draw between 3,000 and 5,000 people to performances in various downtown venues and on the campus of Youngstown State University, organizers said.

Carjacking reported
WARREN -- A 38-year-old Youngstown man told Warren police his car was stolen after he was struck on the head.
He said he was at USA Gas Mart, 317 Pine Ave. S.E., at 10 p.m. Wednesday when three or four men accosted him.
He was struck with an unidentified object, and the men fled in his gray 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Concealed weapon
YOUNGSTOWN -- Louis B. Woolley, 44, of Clifton Avenue was asked to leave The Mixx bar on West Hylda Avenue late Wednesday and arrested outside when police found a .45-caliber handgun in his pants pocket. Police were called to the bar because the manager had recognized Woolley as the man who had created a disturbance at the place in June, reports show. Woolley was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment.
House burglary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Burglars entered an unoccupied house in the 200 block of Norwood Avenue and removed, among other things, the oak front door, a 5-by-12-foot lead glass window with yellow and blue tulip designs, white carpeting and wood trim.
All second-floor bedroom doors were stacked, probably for future removal, police said. The owner, who discovered the break-in Wednesday, told police she is in the process of selling the house.
Woman robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 51-year-old South Truesdale Avenue woman who answered a knock at her door Wednesday was robbed when two young men entered, one with a gun, reports show.
The victim was robbed of her purse and jewelry, police said. The robbers drove off in an older model blue or black car.
Boil-water alert
LEETONIA -- Village officials say that residents affected by a water main break Thursday will need to boil their water. A water department spokesman said Thursday that the boil order would be in effect for about 48 hours.
South Range meeting
NORTH LIMA -- The South Range school board will have its annual reorganization meeting at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the high school in Beaver Township. The school board's regular monthly meeting will follow.
Grant Center program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Reservations are being taken for a Grant Center orientation program scheduled for the Main Library Meeting Room, 305 Wick Ave., at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 8. "Grantseeking Basics: An Orientation to the Funding Research Process" is a basic orientation to the Grant Center Collection.
Grant writing is not included.
This program is intended for representatives of nonprofit organizations new to the process and who want to know more about the library's resources or for previous participants who would like a refresher. The orientation is free and open to representatives from nonprofit organizations seeking information on funding sources and fund raising.
Interview workshops
WARREN -- Warren-Trumbull County Public Library has partnered with Accountemps to offer interviewing skills workshops at three library locations during January and February. The programs will provide the right skills to compete during a job interview.
Michael Gunter, an Accountemps staffing manager with more than 15 years of experience, will lead the discussions. Reservations are not required for: 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Howland branch, 9095 E. Market St. (Friends Meeting Room); 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Liberty branch meeting room, 415 Churchill-Hubbard Road; and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at the main library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W. (Thomas Room).
