AUBURN, Ala. -- Jessica Foley scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half to lead second-ranked Duke to an 89-63 victory Wednesday over Rhode Island in the first round of the Auburn Holiday Classic.
Foley made six of 10 shots -- including three 3-pointers -- for Duke, which led 47-25 at halftime. Mistie Williams and Monique Currie added 14 points apiece as the Blue Devils (12-1) won their 10th straight game with 57-percent shooting.
Tanya Rhodes scored 17 points on 8-of-18 shooting to lead Rhode Island (2-8) in its first matchup with Duke. Peta Kneen added 13 points for the Rams.
No. 3 Baylor 92, Montana St. 47
WACO, Texas -- Sophia Young scored 19 points to lead third-ranked Baylor, which made 58 percent of its shots.
The Lady Bears (10-1) shot a torrid 63 percent (19-of-30) in the first half and finished 35-of-60.
Kati Burrows led Montana State (6-4) with 19 points.
No. 24 Rutgers 65,No. 8 Tennessee 51
PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Freshman Matee Ajavon scored 20 points, and Rutgers held Tennessee to just 16 first-half points.
Fellow freshman Essence Carson added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Scarlet Knights (7-2). Shyra Ely had 13 points for Tennessee (8-3), which had won four games in a row.
No. 10 Michigan St. 67, No. 11 Connecticut 51
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Lindsay Bowen had 20 points and Kelli Roehrig was outstanding in the paint in Michigan State's victory over fading Connecticut.
Bowen made five of seven 3-point attempts. Roehrig had 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Spartans (11-1).
It was the worst home loss for the Huskies (6-3) since a 16-point defeat to Miami on Feb. 21, 1992.
No. 17 Maryland 67, Massachusetts 63
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland's Crystal Langhorne had 26 points and 10 rebounds in the first round of the Terrapin Classic.
Maryland (9-1) extended its winning streak to seven games and advanced to Thursday's tournament final against Marshall, a 71-43 winner over Elon.
Brooke Campbell had 12 points for Massachusetts (6-4).
No. 19 DePaul 75, Valparaiso 49
HANOVER, N.H. -- Khara Smith had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead DePaul in the opening game of Dartmouth's holiday tournament.
Jenna Rubino added 16 points -- including four 3s -- for DePaul (9-2). Betsy Rietema led Valparaiso (5-5) with 13 points.
