AREA SCHOOLS Titans outscore foe by 3 in tourney



Allegheny's women's team defeated Mount Union, 81-64.
MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- Mark DeMonaco scored 24 points and Ed Pagley added 20, leading Westminster to a 122-119 victory over Bethany Lutheran in the first round of the Mountainside Hospital Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.
Pat O'Connor and Dom Joseph added 17 points each for the Titans (9-2), while Chris Hatch scored 14 and Micah Delo 12. Joseph also had nine rebounds and DeMonaco 10 assists.
Westminster will play in the championship game today at 3 p.m.
Robert Smaller had 23 points for Bethany Lutheran (0-8).
Bethany 96, Oberlin 69
BETHANY, W. Va. -- All five starters scored in double figures for Bethany.
Mike Drahos led the Bison with 19 points and eight rebounds. Matt Drahos recorded a game-high 12 rebounds while scoring 11. Scott Mezyk added 15 points while Chris Stephens and Brandon Duncan had 14 apiece.
Oberlin was led by Dwayne Evans' 18 points. Jordan Beard scored 16.
Lake Erie 71, Grove City 57
BLUFFTON -- Robert Williams scored 27 points to lead Lake Erie (4-3) in the opening round of the McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday Tournament.
Grove City will play Denison in the consolation game today at 1 p.m.
Women
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Courtney Steding and Caitlin Murtaugh scored 12 points each, as Allegheny defeated Mount Union 81-64.
Mereditch McDonough added 10 points, while Raelynn Miles had six assists and nine rebounds for the Gators (5-4).
Kyla Hogan led Mount Union (2-8) with 15 points, while Ashley Bourdeau added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Ashley Ross scored 12.
John Carroll 55, Grove City 51
CLEVELAND -- Shayla Bell scored 20 points for John Carroll, making 9-of-11 at the foul line.
The Blue Streaks (4-4) outscored John Carroll 30-26 in the second half, despite shooting 25 percent (7-of-28) from the floor after halftime, and 24.2 percent (15-of-62) for the game.
Sandy O'Keefe scored 19 points to lead Grove City (5-3).
O'Keefe and Rachel McCoy each had six rebounds.
