CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Anthony Maestranzi scored 16 points, including three second-half 3-pointers, to lead Northern Illinois to a 71-62 come-from-behind victory over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday in the Flint Hills Islander Invitational.
St. Bonaventure took a 28-27 lead into halftime, and the Bonnies led 48-41 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game.
But Maestranzi's 3-pointer with 10 minutes left gave Northern Illinois (4-4) all the momentum. Cory Sims made back-to-back layups to even the score at 48-48, and the Huskies sealed the victory by scoring 11 unanswered points.
Maestranzi made all four of his free throws and four of his five 3-point shots.
Ahmad Smith scored 22 points and had six rebounds and five assists for St. Bonaventure (0-10). Patrick Lottin added 12 points.
W. Michigan 65, S. Alabama 45
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Levi Rost scored a game-high 18 points to lead Western Michigan to its 22nd consecutive home victory.
Rost also had a game-high 11 rebounds for Western (8-3) and hit three 3-pointers. Ben Reed added 14 points for the Broncos.
Daniel Northern led South Alabama (3-7) with 10 points.
The Jaguars, who lost their third consecutive game, hit just 31.3 percent of their shots. They missed 16-of-19 3-point attempts. Mario Jointer was held to nine points (7.9 under his average) and four rebounds (1.4 under).
A 15-0 run by Western in the first half put the Broncos ahead for good, with freshman center Joe Reitz (9 points) finishing off a 3-point play for a 20-5 Western lead with 10 minutes left in the half.
