Learn to Swim classes include all skill levels
SALEM --The Salem Community Center has announced its winter session Learn To Swim program dates.
Sign-ups will begin Jan. 3.
The cost per student is $40 for center members and $45 for non-members and is due at the time of registration. Class size is limited.
Here are the classes:
Parent and Child Aquatics (Saturdays, Jan. 8 to March 12)
* Level A: For children 6 months to 2 years who have either no water experience or one previous session of water adjustment. Class time: 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
* Level B: For children 18 months to 4 years who have had two or more sessions of water adjustment lessons, submerge only reluctantly (or not at all) or require flotation support at all times or for those who are up to 5 years old and have little or no previous experience in water adjustment lessons, are reluctant to enter the water or submerge, require flotation support at all times or may benefit from parental presence and support in the water. Class time: 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Learn To Swim Levels (Saturdays, Jan. 8 to March 12)
* Level 1: Intro to Water Skills. Children must be at least 4 years old or have passed Level B in Parent and Child Aquatics. Class time: 9:15 to 9:45 a.m.
* Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills. Class time: 8:30 to 9 a.m.
* Level 3: Stroke Development. Class time: 9:15 to 9:45 a.m.
* Level 4: Stroke Improvement. Class time: 10 to 10:45 a.m.
* Level 5: Lifeguard Readiness. This is not a lifeguard certification class. Class time: 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
* Level 6: Personal Water Safety. Class time: 10:15 to 11 a.m.
Adult Swimming and Diving Lessons (Saturdays, Jan. 8 to Feb. 19)
Class time: 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
Advanced Springboard Diving
Participants will learn how to do dives and flips correctly and maybe even how to twist. The class is for people 10 years old and up (adults or older teens need not be afraid to join). Class time: 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.
