Keeping raccoons away
To keep raccoons away, health officials offer these suggestions:
Secure trash cans. Most raccoons are looking for food. If they find it, they'll be back.
Don't leave dog or cat food outside. That's a feast for raccoons -- for rats, too.
Dab ammonia on a rag and place it inside an orange juice can on a deck or porch. To a raccoon, this smells like the urine of a larger animal, and this might scare away raccoons.
