DOMESTIC RELATIONS Local financial adviser jailed for nonsupport

The man owes about $60,000 in back child and spousal support.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Roger C. Faubel, who often offers his advice on stocks, bonds and other financial matters on a local radio talk show, is spending his Christmas holiday behind bars for failing to pay past-due child and spousal support.
Judge Steve Yarbrough, who was sitting by special assignment in Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court, found Faubel, 61, of Easy Street, Canfield, in contempt of a court order for failure to pay about $60,000 in back support to his son and ex-wife.
In fact, it's the second time the judge found Faubel in contempt. He found the Canfield man in contempt Nov. 13, 2003, but the judge delayed imposing the jail time to allow Faubel the chance to pay up.
Divorced in 2002
The divorce for Faubel and his former wife, Niki, was finalized two years ago. They married in 1984. Faubel was to pay $1,000 a month in child support and $2,500 a month in spousal support beginning Nov. 1, 2002. When his child turned 18, he no longer had to pay child support.
Faubel, who is affiliated with Dow Financial Services, Boardman, at one time filed for bankruptcy protection, which stays pending domestic relations actions, but he later voluntarily dismissed the proceedings in bankruptcy court.
The court allowed him time to pay, but he did not.
Arrearages accrued, and on Dec. 17 the matter came before Judge Yarbrough again. Faubel hadn't paid, and the judge sent him to jail that day. The sentence is 30 days.
Faubel's lawyer, Matthew Giannini, declined to comment. A supervisor at the Mahoning County jail confirmed Faubel was still there Thursday.
Faubel often calls into the Ron Verb radio talk show on WKBN-570 to offer financial advice.
