Neither rain nor sleet ... nor deluge of packages
It's been a very busy Christmas delivery season for this postal carrier.
CANFIELD -- There's only one way for Lori Matulek to drive out of Canfield with her red Jeep Wrangler mail truck stuffed to the brim with packages: nice and easy.
She was rolling north on state Route 46 this week with a large load of packages to be delivered to 627 families and businesses on her U.S. Post Office rural route.
It wasn't easy for her to see who was behind her because of all the packages.
"Actually, I couldn't," Matulek said. So she took it slow.
Matulek said she's never had as many packages to deliver in her 10 years with the post office as she's had this year.
"I could not fit them all in the Jeep," she said, "I had three times more than usual."
The Canfield Post Office had extra workers helping deliver mail in the busy weeks before Christmas.
Her route
Matulek has a rural route in Canfield Township and puts about 25 miles on her Jeep every day.
She's one of 13 rural route carriers who use their own vehicles for mail delivery.
Seven other carriers cover the city of Canfield routes, using regular white mail trucks.
The routes have been snowy lately, but Matulek doesn't mind that.
"I love my job. I don't like it when it's raining. But I don't mind the cold. I don't mind the snow," she said.
Matulek and her three children live in Berlin Center.
