PENNSYLVANIA Drugstore hit by armed robber
It's been about 10 years since there was a robbery in the town.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Authorities are looking for the man who pulled an armed robbery at an Eckerd Drug Store in this quiet college town Monday.
The masked gunman was waiting at the back door of the pharmacy, located at 135 S. Market St., also known as Pa. Route 956, as two employees were leaving at closing time, around 7 p.m. He forced his way through the door at gunpoint and threatened to shoot the employees if they did not cooperate, police said.
The suspect demanded money and forced the employees to turn over an undetermined amount of cash and checks, as well as an undetermined quantity of OxyContin and other narcotics.
According to reports, the suspect tied the employees up and threatened to return to kill them if they tried to do anything that would prevent his escape. He then left through a back door.
The employees managed to free themselves within minutes of the suspect's leaving. Neither employee was hurt.
More than one person
Police said they believe additional suspects might have been involved in the robbery because the man in the store appeared to be communicating with someone else outside with a two-way radio.
The suspect was described as a white male, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing a light gray knit ski mask with dark colored stitching around the eyes and mouth, a gray hooded sweat shirt with a zipper, black tight fitting fabric gloves, dark blue jeans and dirty white tennis shoes. He carried a dark handgun.
New Wilmington Police Chief Carmen Piccirillo said it's been about 10 years since the last armed robbery in the town, home to Westminster College.
Officers from the New Wilmington Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police from the New Castle Barracks are conducting the investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to contact the New Wilmington Police Department at (724) 946-8111 or the Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle at (724) 598-2211.
