Kiwanis donates $750 to give pupils shoes
McDONALD -- The Girard-Liberty Kiwanis has donated $750 for shoes for needy pupils at Roosevelt Elementary School.
The group gave the children $25 gift certificates to Payless Shoes.
School Superintendent Michael Wasser told the board of education Monday he met with Kiwanis representatives recently, who told him they wanted to give shoes to children who were in need.
He added the Kiwanis have said they also want to do more things for the district. Wasser will attend the group's January meeting to thank them for the donation.
The McDonald Lions Club also donated $500 to the district.
In other business, the board approved a two-year contract for Diane Fossaceca as central office assistant at a rate of $12.31 an hour on an as needed basis.
The board named Dr. William Kunkle, current board president, as president pro-tem for the board's reorganization meeting, to be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3 in the high school library.
The board's regular meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24.
