HIT-AND-RUN Man to face charges in accident
GIRARD -- A Youngstown man will appear in Girard Municipal Court on Wednesday to face charges in a fatal hit-and-run accident Friday morning in Liberty Township.
Rodney Pippin, 37, of 2260 Coronado Ave., is charged with aggravated vehicular assault in the crash, which resulted in the death of Clayton K. Orechoneg, 71, of Liberty Township.
Orechoneg died Saturday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Bion Shaw said further charges are being considered in the accident, which occurred at 7:35 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Belmont and Trumbull avenues.
Orechoneg was traveling north on Belmont and had entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Trumbull. He was stuck head-on by a southbound car driven by Pippin, who had run a red light, according to state patrol reports. Pippin and a passenger in his car left the accident scene, authorities said, and Pippin was later taken into custody.
He is in Trumbull County Jail on $100,000 bond.
