Spadafora pleads guilty to shooting
PITTSBURGH -- Former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and a weapons violation Monday for shooting his fiancee last year.
Spadafora shot Nadine Russo with a .38-caliber Smith & amp; Wesson handgun in the backside, with the bullet entering her right breast, on Oct. 26, 2003, because he was upset she had flattened two tires on his Hummer.
Spadafora, 29, a McKees Rocks native known as "The Pittsburgh Kid," said little in court, other than acknowledging the charges and saying he was pleading guilty "'Cause I'm guilty." He didn't comment outside the courtroom.
Prosecutors dropped charges of attempted homicide and reckless endangerment. Allegheny County prosecutor Edward Borkowski said the attempted homicide charge would have been dropped had the case gone to trial because Russo would not have testified against him.
