GIRLS BASKETBALL Champion and Girard rise to the top of TAC
Both the Golden Flashes and Indians are 3-0 in league play.
LIBERTY -- Jessica Wood scored 19 points, and Heather Pegg added 12, leading Champion High to a 58-21 victory over Liberty in a girls Trumbull Athletic Conference basketball game on Monday night.
The Golden Flashes, who led 16-5 in the first quarter, improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the TAC, staying tied for first place with Girard.
Ashley White scored eight points to lead Liberty (3-5, 0-3).
Girard 79, LaBrae 49
GIRARD -- Cachet Murray had a triple-double, finishing with 31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, to lead Girard.
Jessica Bowser and Lauren Adams added 13 points apiece for the Indians (9-0, 3-0 TAC).
Girard visits Champion on Jan. 6.
Laura Bate and Angelica Pugh scored 11 points each for LaBrae (6-3, 1-2).
Brookfield 64, Lakeview 47
BROOKFIELD -- Rachel Pasquerilla and Raquel Brenner scored 14 points apiece for Brookfield, which knocked Lakeview out of a first-place tie in the TAC.
Morgan Bonekovic had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (5-2, 2-1). Pasquerilla also had five assists.
Lakeview (4-3, 2-1) was led by Chelsea Butler, who scored 11 points, and Lindsay Whetzel and Christina Martin, who finished with 10 apiece.
Hubbard 50, Newton Falls 28
NEWTON FALLS -- Callie Oyler scored 12 points to lead Hubbard, which trailed 11-7 after the first quarter but took the lead with a 22-8 edge in the second period.
Shelia Drummond added 11 points for the Eagles (2-4, 1-2 TAC).
Newton Falls (0-7, 0-3) was led by Lindsey Calland, who scored eight points.
