PENGUINS BASKETBALL Youngstown State drops Horizon League opener

DAYTON -- Zakee Boyd was 4-of-6 from 3-point range and scored 22 points to lead Wright State to a 72-51 win over Youngstown State on Saturday.
Wright State (5-5, 1-0 Horizon League) used a 19-6 first-half run to pull ahead 20-8 with 11:16 to play in the first half. The Raiders never trailed again and led Youngstown State (2-6, 0-1) 41-19 at halftime.
The Raiders led by as many as 31 points in the second half, during which Boyd scored 12 of his points. Boyd, who shot 7-of-12 from the floor, scored eight straight points for the Raiders to make the score 66-36 with six minutes left in the game.
Wright State shot 51 percent from the field while holding Youngstown State to 43 percent shooting.
Drew Burleson and Zach Williams each added 12 points for the Raiders, while Dashaun Wood had 11 points and six assists.
Humphrey high scorer
Quin Humphrey led the Penguins with 14 points, and Zach Silverman hit 3-of-4 3-pointers to add 12 points off the bench.
It marked the eighth straight game that Humphrey, a sophomore from Ellenwood, Ga., has scored in double figures this season.
In the second half, Youngstown State outscored the Raiders, 32-31.
For the game, YSU shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) and Wright State was 27-of-53 for 50.9 percent shooting. Wright State made 6-of-11 3-pointers and Boyd made four. YSU was 5-of-12 from behind the 3-point arc with Silverman converting three. WSU attempted 17 free throws to the Penguins' seven.
The Penguins return home to play host to Loyola of Chicago on Tuesday night at Beeghly Center. Tipoff for the contest against the Ramblers, who will be playing their Horizon League opener, is set for 7 p.m.
