METRO ATHLETIC Ferns leads Cards to win at Salem



Canfield remained undefeated in the Metro Athletic Conference.
SALEM -- Jordan Ferns scored 27 points, leading Canfield High to a 69-59 victory over Salem in a Metro Athletic Conference boys basketball game on Friday night.
Kyle Melewski added 15 points and Sean Baker scored 14 for the Cardinals (4-1, 2-0 MAC), who led 35-25 at halftime.
Mike Rounsavall had 11 rebounds for Canfield, and Lance Randall and Baker had seven apiece. Baker also had five assists.
Salem (2-2, 1-1) was led by Tommy Jesko, who finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Tyler Pierce added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Ryan Benchwick had 11 points and Jarin Heath 10 points and five rebounds.
Poland 66, Niles 62
NILES -- Poland remained unbeaten in the MAC with a come-from-behind win.
The Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0 MAC) trailed 48-46 entering the fourth period.
Cameron Marchese led Poland with 21 points, while Chad Fender added 15. Jim Shurilla scored 14 points and Lou Coppola put in 10.
Niles (2-3, 0-1), which rallied from an eight-point deficit into a 29-29 tie at halftime, was led by Bill Frech's 23 points. Andrew Cleary added 12.
Howland 61, Struthers 53
STRUTHERS -- Dario Hadzovic scored 23 points to lead Howland, which trailed 13-11 at the end of the first period then outscored Struthers each of the final three quarters.
Jared Bartholomew added 19 points for the Tigers, while Aaron Womack scored 10.
Dave Mathews led Struthers (3-2, 0-1 MAC) with 17 points and Alan Daniels scored 10.
