Gators beat Thiel; Dean reaches 1,000



Hiram's Carlton Dean reached the milestone in a loss to Bluffton.
MEADVILLE, Pa. - Led by 20 points each from Casey McCloskey and Matt Majzlik, the Allegheny College men's basketball team improved to 3-5 with a 79-66 victory over Thiel on Saturday.
Ben Torsney added nine points and eight rebounds for the Gators.
For Thiel (4-5), Daryl Moore scored 16 points, C.J. Hunt put in 13 and Max Slater added 10.
Otterbein 74, Mount Union 63
ALLIANCE -- Tony Borghese scored 19 points and added four assists for Otterbein (5-3, 2-2 Ohio Athletic Conference).
Mark Church added 15 points, while Scott Hadley finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Mo Ross scored 10.
Kyle Karpinski led Mount Union (3-5, 1-3) with 17 points. Chris Blakely added 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Brett Hershberger had 12 points.
Bluffton 78, Hiram 66
HIRAM -- Hiram senior Carlton Dean became just the 19th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Dean led the Terriers with 18 points, and grabbed seven rebounds. Rick Baldwin (Boardman) added 16 points for Hiram (2-8).
Michael Anthony scored 22 points and Scott Bergman finished with 20 to lead Bluffton (4-4).
Women
WESTERVILLE -- Abbey Perez scored 16 points to lead Otterbein past Mount Union, 89-78, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game.
Perez also had seven rebounds to share team-high honors with Danielle Holbrook, and five assists. Chelsea Callif scored 14 points for the Cardinals (4-5, 2-2 OAC), while Valerie Ruschau added 13. Amanda Fisher and Michelle Keeney scored 11 apiece.
Ashley Bourdeau scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Mount Union (2-6, 0-4). Kyla Hogan added 12 points and Lauren Friedrich had 11.
Tana Keller added six assists.
