BIG TEN Michigan falls late to Bruins

LOS ANGELES -- Dijon Thompson scored a career-high 29 points and hit a 3-pointer that gave UCLA the lead for good with 44 seconds remaining as the Bruins defeated Michigan 81-79.
The Bruins (6-1) rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 3:46 after leading most of the way.
It was Thompson's first game back since cutting his right hand in a loss to Boston College in the Wooden Classic on Dec. 5. He played with some fingers on his shooting hand taped together.
Michigan (6-5) was without four players because of injuries. Wing Lester Abram had season-ending shoulder surgery on Thursday; forward Graham Brown is out 4-to-6 weeks after having hernia surgery; guard Daniel Horton is out at least four weeks with a left knee sprain; and guard Dani Wohl is out six weeks with a left elbow injury.
No. 21 Michigan State 63,Delaware State 45
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Chris Hill had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and No. 21 Michigan State rallied to beat Delaware State.
Kelvin Torbert added 12 points and Shannon Brown had 10 for the sluggish Spartans (6-2), who struggled after last Saturday's 25-point win over Stanford.
Jahsha Bluntt had 11 points for the Hornets (2-6), who still haven't played a home game.
With Michigan State trailing 22-17 late in the first half, Hill scored five points in a 12-0 run that included the final seven of the half and part of a 10-3 run after the break.
Northwestern 53, Seton Hall 44
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Vedran Vukusic scored 14 points on his 22nd birthday as Northwestern defeated Seton Hall 53-44 at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Vukusic scored seven points in a decisive 8-0 Northwestern run in the second half erasing a short-lived Pirates lead and securing the Wildcats third straight win. Vukusic played all forty minutes finishing with seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks.
The Pirates (4-3) shot 28.6 percent from the field and made 4-of-18 3-pointers. No Seton Hall players scored in double figures.
Northwestern (4-4) looked sharp with 14 assists on 19 baskets. The Wildcats shot 53.8 percent in the second half and 41.3 percent for the game. Their only weakness was at the free-throw line where they hit just 10-of-22 shots.
