AMATEUR BOXING Two-time champ wins main event at Teen Scene

McDowell was aggressive and kept opponent Hazimihalis off balance.
AUSTINTOWN -- Ira "Tiger" McDowell from Akron, a two-time national champion, won a close decision over Southside Boxing's Chris Hazimihalis (13-2) of Campbell in the main-event of a 10-fight amateur boxing event at the Teen Scene Friday.
The 132-pound four-rounder was a contrast in styles that had Hazimihalis countering the aggressiveness of McDowell.
Hazimihalis was given a standing eight count late in the fourth round four and that appeared to be the difference in the fight.
Torres' Warren Boxing Club swept three bouts with the finale of the evening, a super heavyweight three-rounder, going to former Warren JFK High football standout Frank Tempesta.
Tempesta sent Mitch Hall from the McDonald A.C. down with a solid right in the first round and then, using a left hook to the body and a right to the jaw, finished him 15 seconds into the second round.
The event was brought to The Teen Scene by Jack Loew and Tank DiCioccio of the Southside Boxing Club.
Loew trained fighters won one match, 75-pound Junior Olympian Jake McBride, the younger brother of Salem pro "Irish" Davey McBride, who with a whirlwind attack was too much for Cleveland's Don Belcher.
McBride knocked Belcher down 20 seconds in and dominated the fight until the referee stopped it 49 seconds into the third round.
Kaleem Vann, from P.C. Torres Warren Boxing Club, won a decision over Southside Boxing's Juan Salinas in a 95-pound three-rounder that either fighter could have won.
In a 112-pound Junior Olympic three-rounder, Devante Green from Cleveland beat Mark Givens from the Erie Street gym. Green knocked down Givens twice. Givens, from Youngstown made a late rally, but fell short.
In a 125-pound four-rounder, Prentis Brewer from Cleveland beat Charlie Fagan from the Southside Boxing Club. After left hook sent Fagan to the canvas in the second round, the referee stopped the contest at the 1:47 mark.
In one of the best fights of the night, a 165-pound three-rounder, Shawn Porter, a Junior Olympic world champion from Akron, was taken to the limit by Ron Pezzuolo of Austintown. The three judges gave the decision to Porter (28-9). Pezzuolo's record went to 4-2.
