WOMEN'S ROUNDUP Longhorns rout in-state rival; Hiram wins easily

DENTON, Texas -- Jamie Carey scored a career-high 30 points to lead No. 4 Texas to a 79-54 victory over North Texas on Thursday night.
Tiffany Jackson added 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Longhorns (5-2), who are 9-0 all-time against North Texas.
The Longhorns, who trailed 34-31 at halftime, opened the second half with a 14-4 run to take a 45-38 lead with 10:50 left. Texas dominated the rest of the game.
Mia Ajekwus led North Texas (4-4) with 16 points.
Texas controlled the boards in the second half, outrebounding North Texas 25-12.
The Mean Green also lost their shooting touch after the break. After shooting 50 percent in the first half, North Texas connected on 33 percent in the second.
Carey topped her career-high 28 points against New Mexico on Dec. 4.
Hiram 80, Lake Erie 23
HIRAM -- The Terriers jumped out to a 22-4 lead in the first nine minutes of the game and never looked back, going into halftime ahead, 45-10. Brandie Turner led Hiram (4-4) with 15 points, hitting 2-of-4 3-pointers. Cassie Bedard, Abbey Gorby (East Palestine) and Katie Moore each recorded 10 points. Moore also had seven rebounds, while Bedard and Jennifer White (Western Reserve) each grabbed six.
Loni Sargent scored 11 points to lead Lake Erie (0-4).
