Sign up for safety: State patrolman to help Safe Kids Coalition from a billboard perch

BOARDMAN -- On Friday beginning at 6 a.m., Lt. Brian Girts, commander of the Ohio State Patrol's Canfield Patrol Post, will be sitting on the platform of the highway patrol's billboard on U.S. Route 224 at Interstate 680 to draw attention to child passenger safety. He'll be there for 12 hours.
Joining him on the billboard throughout the day will be radio personalities from WYFM (Y-103) radio. The Mahoning Valley Safe Kids Coalition will be at the site accepting donations which will be used to purchase child safety seats for families who otherwise could not afford one. Those wishing to donate can call the Mahoning Valley Safe Kids Coalition at (330) 884-5437.
In Trumbull County, highway patrol officers will accept donations near the OSHP billboard outside the Imperial Cafe, 1860 Elm Road N.E., Warren, across from the Elm Road Drive-in.
In Columbiana County, officers will be at the OSHP billboard outside the Taco Bell on state Route 170 in Calcutta Township.
Similar events will go on simultaneously in Ashtabula, Portage and Jefferson counties, Girts said.
