A federal court ruling allowed for a recount of all presidential ballots cast in Ohio's 88 counties. Presidential candidates for the Green and Libertarian parties requested the recount.
The recount began around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and ended in the early evening.
The original count showed Bush getting 48,712 votes. The recount total was 48,761.
Kerry had 83,069 in the initial count, but the recount showed him receiving 83,194. The totals show Kerry had a net gain over the president in Mahoning County of 76 votes.
The National Voting Rights Institute, representing the Green and Libertarian candidates, paid the $3,120 for the recount here. Witnesses for the political parties were on hand to view the recount.
Still to be determined is the cost for the recount. Each county elections board sets its day for the recount.
Columbiana County's recount began today, and Trumbull County's will be at 9 a.m. Monday.
