Bradley in jail
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Milton Bradley began serving a three-day jail sentence on Wednesday for driving away while being issued a speeding ticket more than a year ago.
Bradley's appeals in the case were exhausted last week when the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the trial judge did not unfairly sentence him. He also argued that the offense did not merit jail time and would hurt him professionally.
Bradley, 26, was a member of the Cleveland Indians when he was charged with driving 52 mph in a 25-mph zone when he was arrested Aug. 30, 2003, in Cuyahoga Falls in northeast Ohio.
Police said Bradley was issued a speeding ticket but would not sign it, rolled up his window and drove away.
Bradley pleaded guilty earlier this year to a charge of obstructing official business, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to the jail time, 40 hours' community service and a $250 fine.
His attorney, Scott Dean, did not immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday.
The outfielder faces a Feb. 22 trial in Barberton Municipal Court on a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct stemming from a Nov. 25 arrest for interfering with someone else's traffic stop. If convicted, he could receive 30 days in jail or a $250 fine.
Court rulesfor protesters
COLUMBUS -- The arrest of five individuals protesting the Cleveland Indians' Chief Wahoo emblem as a racist depiction did not violate the protesters' free speech rights, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Wednesday.
The court's 5-2 decision upheld the city of Cleveland's decision to arrest the protesters in April 1998 after they burned an effigy of Chief Wahoo outside Jacobs Field in downtown Cleveland.
