WESTLAKE TERRACE New resource center offers helpful services to residents

The YHMA converted three apartments to accommodate the center.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Residents of the Westlake Terrace community have a new resource center that will offer a variety of services.
The Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority held an open house to showcase the programs that will be available to terrace residents at the center, 976 Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Herman Hill, director of the Youth Build program at YMHA, noted that the services will be comprehensive, offering training in adult basic education, computers, financial management, business development, job preparation and wellness.
He said that YMHA converted two 2-bedroom apartments and an efficiency to create the 2,500-square-foot center at a cost of $120,000.
Quality of life
Hill said the residents are pleased with the center.
"Residents told us what they wanted and needed in a center and they're excited about it, but it will be successful when all residents take advantage of these opportunities."
He added that having the programs offered at one location will be especially good for those without transportation.
Hill noted that the end result will be a positive one. "The ultimate goal is improvement in the quality of life in every way."
The resource center also houses an office and a staff of eight. It will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
