AMATEUR BOXING Twelve fights set for Friday



One bout is still undecided for the show at the Teen Scene.
AUSTINTOWN -- The card is nearly set for Friday night's amateur boxing show at the Teen Scene, 1743 Raccoon Road in the Wedgewood Plaza.
One fight, the finale of a 13-bout card, will be an open super heavyweight four-rounder with Frank Tempesta from Warren in the ring with an opponent to be named.
Tempesta is a Warren policeman who trains with P.C. Torres at the Warren Boxing Club.
The opening five bouts of the card, which is being promoted by Jack Loew and Tank DiCioccio of the Southside Boxing Club, are all Junior Olympic three-rounders.
At 65 pounds, Alejandro "Popo" Salinas from the Southside Boxing Club will battle Alex Smith from the Warren Boxing Club. At 70 pounds, Jake McBride, the younger brother of pro boxer Davey McBride, for the Southside Boxing Club, will fight Don Belcher from Cleveland.
In an 80-pound bout Ryan Davis from the Warren Boxing Club will be in the ring with Vermone Parker from Cleveland. The 95-pound bout will have Juan Salinas, the Southside Boxing Club veteran Junior Olympian who has been to the Nationals, fighting Donald Brown from the Akron Porter Gym.
The final bout between Junior Olympians will have Southside Boxing Club's Mark Givens against Devante Green from Cleveland in a 112-pound battle.
Four-round fights
The rest of the fights, open and novice, will be four-rounders. The first, an open heavyweight bout, has Josh Harris from Frank West's Buckeye Elks in the ring with Mathew Mills from Cleveland.
In a 125-pound open fight Southside Boxing Club fighter Charlie Fagan will battle Prentis Brewer from Cleveland. In another 125-pound open bout, Clayton Taylor from West Virginia will fight Kevin Harvey from Cleveland.
In an open fight at 132 pounds, Chris Hazimihalis of Campbell and the Southside Boxing Club, a winner of 12 of 13 amateur fights, will fight Ira McDowell from Akron's Porter Gym.
Along with Tempesta's heavyweight bout, there is one other open fight and that is at 152 pounds, with Ron Pezzuolo from the Southside Boxing Club and Austintown against Demarlo Thomas from Cleveland.
In two novice four-rounders, one at 125 pounds, Justin Petto from Cleveland is fighting Zac Smith from West Virginia. At 140 pounds, Mike Hood from Cleveland will be in the ring with Mark Yanni from West Virginia.
This show is called "A Christmas Special of Amateur Boxing" with general admission tickets $10 and reserved seat tickets $15. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the first fight will be at 7:30. For ticket information call Loew at (330) 501-5713.
