PHILADELPHIA -- Cynthia Jordan scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half to lead Temple to an upset of No. 22 Rutgers. Temple (5-3) led by nine at halftime before Rutgers (5-2) cut the Owls' lead to five with 18:32 remaining. But a 13-2 Temple run in the next 3:07 pushed its lead to 44-28, and the Owls led by as many as 20 points. The victory was Temple's first against a ranked opponent since an 81-68 win over No. 20 Rutgers on March 10, 1989.

No. 6 Wake Forest 67, Temple 64
PHILADELPHIA -- Trent Strickland scored all nine of his points in the final 9 minutes and No. 6 Wake Forest went 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 2 minutes to hold off Temple. Eric Williams, who along with fellow starter Chris Paul, were disciplined for 5 minutes for being late for the team bus on the way to the game, had 17 points for the Demon Deacons (7-1). Paul, the leading vote-getter on the AP's preseason All-America team, and Williams were held out of the starting lineup for being 2 minutes late for the bus. Paul finished with nine points and eight assists for the Demon Deacons, who were coming off a nine-day break for exams. Mardy Collins had a season-high 25 points for Temple (3-5).
No. 20 Mississippi St. 74,New Orleans 59
NEW ORLEANS -- Shane Power scored 17 points and Mississippi State extended its road winning streak to 13 games. Lawrence Roberts and Jamall Edmondson each scored 14 points, Ontario Harper added 11 and Winsome Frazier finished with 10 for the Bulldogs (8-2), who have won six of their past seven. New Orleans' Bo McCalebb, who ranks 10th in the nation in scoring with a 22.5 point average, was limited to 16 points on 6-for-21 shooting. Chad Barnes added 15 points and Jamie McNeilly scored 10 for New Orleans (3-4), which had its two-game winning streak halted. Mississippi State shot 46 percent (11-of-24) from 3-point range, and stretched an eight-point halftime lead to a 15-point advantage. The Bulldogs led 43-35 at the break, shooting 48 percent field goal in the opening half. The Privateers charged to a 9-3 lead before Mississippi State rallied, shooting 7-of-15 from beyond the arc in the first half.
