BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association Youth Force Winter Conference will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave.
Donte Shackelford, a nationally known freshman at North Carolina A & amp;T State University, in Greensboro, N.C., will give a motivational presentation called "School is My Job."
Members of the Youngstown City Schools Youth Force Club, who have accomplished academic and vocational goals, will be recognized. Those attending the conference also will be asked to donate to the Toys For Tots campaign.
Youngstown Foundationdonates to food bank
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Foundation has given another $25,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank's capital campaign.
The food bank is raising $300,000 for expansion and renovation of their new facility at 2805 Salt Springs Road in Youngstown. The facility was donated to the food bank by Dr. Jacques Politi last year.
"The Youngstown Foundation is now the largest contributor to our capital campaign, bringing their total contribution to $50,000," said Mike Iberis, food bank executive director. "We are grateful for this gift and for their past generosity to us."
Second Harvest Food Bank provides food to 200 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. They include faith-based pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens. This year, the food bank will distribute close to 4.5 million pounds of food.
Sick raccoon destroyed
AUSTINTOWN -- A sick raccoon that had attacked a goat and a dog at a home on Russell Avenue was shot and killed by a police officer. The officer killed the raccoon and notified the Mahoning County Board of Health after a complaint from the homeowner at 1:37 p.m. Thursday.
Tickets go on salefor holiday festival
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tickets go on sale today at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., for its 44th annual Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival set for Jan. 9.
There will be a performance at 2:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 3 p.m., then another performance at 4:30 p.m. Patron tickets are $50 each; dinner/performance tickets are $15 each; and performance only tickets are $4 each.
