PREP BASKETBALL Liberty tops Salem in overtime
In other Saturday action, Canfield's girls trounced Niles.
LIBERTY -- Three players scored double digits for Liberty High School boys basketball team on Saturday, led by Edward Keshaw who had 18 points and five rebounds, in a 57-49 overtime win over Salem.
Trailing 22-13 at the half, Salem (1-1) outscored Liberty 34-25 in the second half to force overtime.
The Quakers, led by Tommy Jesko with 16 points, could muster only two points in the extra period, however, in their first loss of the season.
Liberty's John Humphrey and Chris Harrison scored 11 points each, and Brandon Cornwell had 10 points.
Springfield 50, Canfield 35
SPRINGFIELD -- Jordan Ferris scored 19 points for Canfield (2-1), but the effort wasn't enough to hold off Springfield Local (2-2) in a 50-35 loss Saturday.
Led by Luke Summers' 18 points, Springfield shot 53 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free throw line in the win.
Dane Dobson scored 10 points for Springfield, and Andrew Schuler pulled down 11 rebounds.
Girls
CANFIELD -- Danielle Pavlansky scored 13 points, which included three 3-pointers, to lead Canfield over Niles, 56-22, in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Kate Popovec added 11 points for the Cardinals (4-2, 1-0), while Bryanne Halfhill scored 10.
Niles (0-2 MAC) was led by Jessica Pallante, who scored six points.
Lisbon 59, South Range 47
NORTH LIMA -- Erica Sims scored 20 points and Kim Davis added 18 to lead Lisbon (3-2), which led 33-20 at halftime.
Michelle Pingley led South Range (2-5) with 16 points and Cindy Schuler scored 13.
