Spadafora in jail
PITTSBURGH -- Former lightweight boxing champ Paul Spadafora was jailed after a urine test showed he apparently used cocaine, authorities said.
Spadafora turned himself in to authorities on Friday after violating terms of his bond, said sheriff's Lt. Jack Kearney.
Spadafora, 29, had been free on bond but under house arrest while awaiting his Dec. 20 trial on attempted homicide.
Spadafora had been barred from using drugs or alcohol under the conditions of the bond. But a random drug test Dec. 5 revealed cocaine in his system, Allegheny County probation officials said.
A message left with Spadafora's attorney, William Difenderfer, was not immediately returned Saturday.
Spadafora was the 2003 International Boxing Federation lightweight champion. He gave up the title in 2003 and said he was moving up to junior welterweight, where he could maintain his weight.
Spadafora is to be tried on charges he shot girlfriend Nadine Russo in the abdomen on Oct. 26, 2003, because he was upset that she flattened two tires on his sport utility vehicle. Russo survived the shooting and the couple are now engaged.
Shortly before his fiancee was shot, he was arrested for urinating on a Pittsburgh street while intoxicated and was later convicted of disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
In September, Spadafora was charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and recklessly endangering another person riding as a passenger in a car and trying to put the car in park while it was moving, state police said. The charges are unresolved.

Hoosiers make it2 soccer cups in row
CARSON, Calif. -- Jay Nolly saved two penalty kicks and Indiana won its second straight NCAA Men's College Cup title Sunday, beating UC Santa Barbara in a penalty kick shootout.
The teams were tied 1-all after regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, forcing the shootout.
The second-seeded Hoosiers won for the 10th time in 11 games and earned their seventh NCAA title, the first under coach Mike Freitag, who replaced Jerry Yeagley this season.
Yeagley retired after the 2003 Men's College Cup, finishing with a Division I record 544 victories in 31 seasons.
Each team converted two penalty kicks before Indiana's Mike Ambersley slipped a shot under the crossbar to put the Hoosiers ahead.
Nate Boyden tried to fake Nolly out of position on Santa Barbara's final kick, but Nolly dived to his left and deflected the shot away.
Before Boyden's kick, Nolly dived to his right, blocking a shot by Tony Lochhead.
John Michael Hayden and Greg Badger also converted for Indiana. Drew McAthy and Ivan Becerra made penalty kicks for the ninth-seeded Gauchos (21-3-1).
Walt Harris namedStanford head coach
STANFORD, Calif. -- Pittsburgh's Walt Harris was hired as Stanford's new football coach Sunday, giving the Cardinal the offensive-minded leader they sought to replace Buddy Teevens.
Stanford spokesman Gary Migdol said Harris accepted the job Sunday, and the school planned an official announcement for Monday.
"He's accepted and will be here tomorrow," Migdol said. "He's in Pittsburgh today."
Harris, 58, reportedly was meeting with his team Sunday and is expected to coach the 19th-ranked Panthers in the Fiesta Bowl against Utah on Jan. 1 before assuming his new job.
Harris interviewed on campus Friday, two days after Southern California offensive coordinator Norm Chow visited to interview. Athletic director Ted Leland offered Harris the job Saturday, then met with university president John Hennessey and provost John Etchemendy as a formality in the hiring process.
Leland said he wouldn't spend a fortune on his football coach. Harris met last week with Pittsburgh athletic director Jeff Long, but the school didn't offer him an extension for more than the close to $600,000 he was earning.

Talk, little actionat winter meetings
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Agents and general managers talked a lot but did little Sunday on the third day of baseball's winter meetings.
There was just one trade, with Toronto sending catcher Kevin Cash to Tampa Bay for right-hander Chad Gaudin, and no free-agent signings. With the meetings wrapping up Monday, teams appeared more concerned about setting up the groundwork for future deals than actually finalizing swaps and contracts.
Carlos Beltran's agent discussed the All-Star center fielder with the Yankees, who also met with the agent for Pedro Martinez. While New York manager Brian Cashman said he hadn't made an offer to Beltran, he refused to say whether he offered a contract to the three-time Cy Young Award winner.
