Assisted living centerhas groundbreaking
AUSTINTOWN -- A groundbreaking ceremony for the Victoria House, a new 41,000-square-foot assisted living center at 5295 Ashley Circle, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The facility, named by the owners to honor their mother, Victoria DePizzo of Girard, will feature accommodations for 72 residents including a 24-bed memory care unit.
According to Jerry DePizzo, Chief Operating Officer of Briarfield Health Care Centers, the center will also create 60 jobs. "We are pleased to not only provide a needed health care service to community seniors, but also to help build the local economy by creating new job opportunities." The project is expected to be completed in summer 2005.
In addition to assistance with daily living tasks, residents of The Victoria House will have the opportunity to enjoy movies in the center's theater, participate in religious services in a chapel, surf the Internet in the library and enjoy spa services. DePizzo states the center will be "upscale but affordable; like a fine hotel experience."
Located on seven wooded acres off of State Route 46 between Norquest Road and Victoria Road, The Victoria House will offer a parklike, secure living environment for seniors.
FirstEnergy subsidiary under investigation
AKRON -- FirstEnergy Corp. was informed Friday that a subsidiary is a target of a federal grand jury investigation and likely will face charges that it provided false information to government inspectors about its troubled Davis-Besse nuclear power plant.
According to the utility, the U.S. attorney's office said FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. "is a target of the federal grand jury investigation into alleged false statements made to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the fall of 2001."
According to Akron-based FirstEnergy, designating the subsidiary as a grand jury target "indicates that, in the view of the prosecutors assigned to the matter, it is likely that federal charges will be returned" against FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co.
Cinergy plans to sell6.1 million shares
CINCINNATI -- Cinergy Corp. said Friday it will sell 6.1 million shares of common stock to pay down about $247 million in debt.
Cinergy, the parent of utilities that serve southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and most of Indiana, said it needed additional equity because of environmental construction programs by subsidiaries Cincinnati Gas & amp; Electric Co. and PSI Energy Inc.
Those programs are designed to reduce power plant emissions to comply with new federal rules to improve air quality, the utility said.
