Passed the Ohio Bar
Two local people passed the Ohio State Bar Examination last month and are now practicing law.
Kristen Colleen Coates, a daughter of Bill and Gerry Coates of Canfield, graduated magna cum laude from Miami of Ohio University, and received her law degree from Capital University Law School. She is practicing real estate law in the Columbus area.
J.H. Huebert, a son of John and Melva Huebert of North Lima, was a 1997 honors graduate at South Range High School and earned his bachelor's degree cum laude in economics from Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., in 2001. He received his law degree in May from the University of Chicago Law School.
While in law school, he was a John M. Olin Student Fellow in Law and Economics.
Atty. Huebert is serving a one-year term as a law clerk to Judge Deborah L. Cook of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He will join the law firm of Porter, Wright, Morris & amp; Arthur in Columbus.
Liberty native passesIllinois Bar exam
Candace Levy, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Levy of Liberty, has passed the Illinois Bar Examination and is employed with the Chicago law firm Weiman & amp; Associates.
Atty. Levy graduated from Liberty High School, earned her bachelor's degree from Indiana University, and received her law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus.
HONORS
Director gets award
Dr. Richard J. Billak, chief executive director of the Community Corrections Association on Market Street, Youngstown, has received the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction's Gold Star Award.
The award is the ODRC's highest and is given to an individual or organization for quality service. Billak receiving the award for CCA's continued support of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority's Youngstown Unit and its Weed & amp; Seed community policing efforts.
STATE PATROL
Trooper of the Year
Trooper Harrison M. Parm of Hubbard has been selected 2004 Trooper of the Year for the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Hiram Post.
Parm, 29, was selected by his fellow officers for his leadership abilities, professional ethics and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public. He is now in contention for the district and state troooper of the year awards.
Parm, a 1993 Hubbard High School graduate, joined the state patrol in 1998, and began his career at the Elyria Post. He transferred to the Canfield Post in 1999 and has been at the Hiram Post since 2001.
He has a daughter, Alanna, 5.
