Former Austintown Fitch standout Williams charged with assault

Miles Williams was suspended after his coach found out.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Two Michigan State football players have been indefinitely suspended from the team after being charged with assaulting and attempting to rob a fellow student.
Miles Williams, a graduate of Austintown Fitch High, and Hugh D'Imperio were charged in connection with a Nov. 20 incident on campus, the Lansing State Journal reported Friday. The players, both freshmen, face charges of assault with intent to rob while unarmed and unarmed robbery.
Both charges are felonies each carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
Players suspended
Michigan State coach John L. Smith suspended both players from the team after learning of the charges, the newspaper reported.
"That kind of behavior won't be tolerated," Smith said in a statement.
D'Imperio, 19, a linebacker from Sewell, N.J., has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Jan. 12. Williams, 18, a cornerback, has a pretrial set for Wednesday.
D'Imperio's lawyer, Bernard Finn, said he was still gathering facts about the case and wouldn't comment further.
Williams left the team about three weeks before the incident, and his future status was already unknown.
Williams' mother, Joyce Greathouse of Youngstown, said Thursday that she was hoping the issue could be cleared up and that Williams would be able to remain with the team. Williams did not return a call seeking comment.
