ELECTION '04 Pennsylvania certifies count in Kerry's favor
Voters decided five statewide races.
HARRISBURG (AP) -- Pennsylvania officials have officially certified Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry as the election winner in the state.
Official voting tallies were released Friday by the Department of State, more than five weeks after the Nov. 2 election. Voters decided five statewide races, including those for president, U.S. senate and state attorney general, treasurer and auditor general.
Kerry garnered 2,938,095 votes to 2,793,847 for President Bush, the Republican incumbent who went on to win a second term. Libertarian Michael Badnarik received 21,185 votes, Green Party candidate David Cobb received 6,319, and Constitution Party candidate Michael Peroutka received 6,318.
In the U.S. Senate race, Republican incumbent Arlen Specter won a fifth term with 2,959,909 votes. His Democratic challenger, U.S. Rep. Joe Hoeffel, had 2,334,126 votes. Constitution Party candidate James N. Clymer received 220,056 votes, and Libertarian Party candidate Betsy Summers received 79,263.
Other races
For the open office of state attorney general, Republican Tom Corbett won with 2,720,718 votes. Democrat Jim Eisenhower received 2,621,927 and Green Party candidate Marakay J. Rogers received 70,624.
For the open office of state treasurer, Democrat Robert P. Casey Jr. won with 3,341,309 votes. Republican Jean Craige Pepper received 1,997,951 votes, Libertarian Party candidate Darryl Perry received 61,238, Green Party candidate Paul Teese received 40,740 and Constitution Party candidate Max Lampenfeld received 20,406.
For the open office of state auditor general, Democrat Jack Wagner won with 2,778,635 votes. Republican Joe Peters received 2,427,497, Libertarian Party candidate Berlie Etzel Jr. received 64,959, Green Party candidate Ben Price received 53,859 and Constitution Party candidate Leonard Ritchey received 28,770.
