Cinderella Ball is 49th annual event
A crowd of 600 attended this year's fund-raiser.
BOARDMAN -- The crowning of Antoinette Fitzgerald as Miss Cinderella highlighted the Junior Civic League's 49th annual Cinderella Ball on Nov. 26 at Mr. Anthony's.
Ms. Fitzgerald was chosen by popular vote by a crowd of 600. She is the daughter of Charles Fitzgerald Sr., Annette Brown-Richardson and Greg Richardson. She is a senior at Cardinal Mooney High School.
Her escort was William Kennedy, a student at Austintown Fitch High School and son of Debbie Hutcherson and Robert Stevens.
Her attendants
First runner-up was Ashley Turnage-Robinson, a Woodrow Wilson High School student and daughter of Michael Allen and Victoria Turnage-Allen. She was escorted by David Simon of Ursuline High School, son of Kenneth and Wendy Simon. Second runner-up was Cierra Bennett, daughter of Crystal Bennett. She is a student at Ursuline, and her escort was Derrick Stewart, a student at Ursuline and son of Willie and Sandra Stewart.
As Miss Cinderella, Ms. Fitzgerald will receive a $1500 college scholarship. Last year's winner, Lauren Brooks, a student at Ohio State University, passed the crown to the new winner after telling the audience what her reign meant to her.

Glenn Brady; Larren Lott of Austintown Fitch High School, daughter of Lawrence Lott and Jennie Lott-Thomas, Laird Lott and Linda Gooden-Lott; Cara Hobbs of Rayen, daughter of Carol Hobbs and Gerald Moon; Bryt-Tanie Mitchell of Cardinal Mooney High School, daughter of Maudessia Mitchell, Bryant Mitchell Sr. and Matthew Patterson; Brittani Parker of Liberty, daughter of Dwight and Beverly Parker; Donna-Marie Patmon of Kennedy Catholic High School, daughter of Marnie Turner and Kevin Patmon; Misha Taylor of Rayen, daughter of Kendell and Tammy Taylor; Keona Walker of Woodrow Wilson High School, daughter of Audrey and Amos Walker; and Krystal Ware of Boardman High School, daughter of Robert and Sallie Ware.
The other escorts were Maurice Clark of Rayen, son of Lois and Nathan Clark; Jose Crespo of Cardinal Mooney, son of Antonio and Maria Crespo; Eric Johnson of Campbell Memorial High School, son of Ronald and Alicia Casey; Jarred Jones of Rayen, son of Betty Nance and Arthur Jones; Mark Scott II of Liberty, son of Mark Scott Sr. and Addie Smith; Edwin Smith of Ursuline, son of Melinda and Philip Smith; Joshua Triplett of Rayen, son of Ray Beachum and Karen Green; Terrill Vidale of Ursuline, son of Nigel and Michelle Vidale; and Andrew Whitlow of Rayen, son of Cecelia Whitlow.
A buffet dinner and dancing followed the presentation of the debutantes and their escorts.
About the event
Proceeds from the annual event benefit the league's scholarship and adopt-a-school programs. Since its inception in 1952, the league has awarded over $380,000 in scholarships to black students in the Youngstown area.
Chairwoman of this year's ball was Phyllis Cross. Molly Seals is league president.
