BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP Jones' big game lifts Ursuline over Rayen



The Irish standout scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the victory.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jerome Jones finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots, leading Ursuline High to a 54-47 victory over The Rayen School in a boys basketball game Friday.
D'Aundray Brown added nine points and six rebounds for the Irish (2-1), and Carey Palermo had five assists.
Ursuline bolted from a 28-28 halftime tie, outscoring the Tigers 13-8 in the third quarter.
Odell Eargle scored 16 points and had five rebounds for Rayen, and Dom Crosby scored 12.
Struthers 64, Mooney 55
STRUTHERS -- The Wildcats remained unbeaten behind Mike Duponty, who finished with 20 points.
A.J. Ward added 14 points and Alan Daniels scored 13 for Struthers (3-0).
Mooney, playing in its season opener, got 12 points each from L.J. Sutton and Jaron Howell, and 11 points from Dom Daltorio.
Howland 68, Liberty 62
LIBERTY -- Jared Bartholomew and Aaron Womack shared scoring honors for the Tigers with 21 points each.
Bartholomew's 3-pointer at the outset of the fourth quarter tied the score at 49, and Howland took control of the game from that point, although the Leopards (0-1) kept it close.
Fario Hadzovic had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers and Womack had eight assists.
Liberty was led by Mychal Doblanski, who had 21 points, three assists and five steals. Edward Kershaw added 13 points and Chris Harrison had 10 rebounds.
Niles 68, Hubbard 58
HUBBARD -- Bill Frech scored 18 points to lead Niles.
The Red Dragons also got 16 points from Andrew Cleary and 11 by Joe Razzano.
Hubbard was led by Dave Ward, who finished with 15 points, and Frankie Rasile, who scored 10.
Springfield 64, Jackson-Milton 23
NORTH JACKSON -- Zack DeJane had 17 points and nine rebounds for Springfield, which improved to 1-2 overall in the Inter-County League opener.
Luke Summers had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers, while Andrew Schuler had seven assists. Mason McCambridge had six assists and three steals, and DeJane had four assists.
Andrew Whitmer led Jackson-Milton with seven points.
Lowellville 48,Western Reserve 44
LOWELLVILLE -- Vince Broll had 16 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and a pair of key steals to lead Lowellville (2-2, 1-1 ICL).
One of Broll's steals led to a basket as part of the Rockets' 15-7 edge in the fourth quarter, when they rallied from a 37-33.
Rocky Nolfi had nine points and nine rebounds for Lowellville.
Jeff Zatchok led three players for Western Reserve (1-4, 0-2) in double figures, finishing with 11. Dave Devillin and Joe Petro added 10 points apiece.
Mineral Ridge 72, South Range 58
MINERAL RIDGE -- Vance Kiersey finished with 19 points and three assists to lead Mineral Ridge.
The Rams (4-1, 1-1 ICL) also got 10 points from Nick Diana, while Micah Hall had nine of the team's 32 rebounds. Wade Campbell also had three assists.
Brian Crawford netted 17 points and Josh Less scored 10 for South Range (1-1, 1-1).
Fitch 53, Perry 43
AUSTINTOWN -- James Wallace scored 17 points for Fitch. Terrell Eargle added 12 points for the Falcons, who improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Federal League.
Kenny Frease scored 18 points and had six rebounds for Perry (3-1, 0-1).
North Canton 84, Boardman 56
