PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP Whitney Goist leads Columbiana
She was close to a triple-double in Columbiana's victory over Leetonia.
COLUMBIANA -- Whitney Goist had a fine all-around game, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, to lead Columbiana High to a 76-37 victory over Leetonia, in a Tri-County League girls basketball game Thursday night.
Lisa Simon added 17 points, while Krista Johnson had 13 points and seven assists for Columbiana (4-1, 2-0 TCL). Colleen Eisenbraun also had 10 rebounds.
Allison Summers led Leetonia (3-3, 1-1) with 20 points and Malorie Valentine added 10. Both players also had six rebounds.
Youngstown Chr. 57, Wilson 41
YOUNGSTOWN -- Rachel Coristin and Beverly Young scored 14 points apiece for Youngstown Christian (2-3).
Kara Cooper added 13 points for the Eagles, who led 14-2 after the first quarter and 22-14 at halftime.
Kiesha Letlow led Wilson (1-4) with 24 points. Dapree Bloxsom had six points and eight assists, while Aniqua Donlow had eight points.
Lowellville 77,Western Reserve 11
LOWELLVILLE -- Amanda Nero poured in 30 points and had 12 steals for Lowellville (4-0, 2-0 Inter-County League).
Kaitlin McCarthy added 12 points and Kristen Pallozzi scored 10 for the Rockets, who led 36-4 at halftime. Alison Grapevine had 13 rebounds.
Laney Kekich scored five points to lead Western Reserve (1-5, 0-1).
South Range 58, Mineral Ridge 36
NORTH LIMA -- Michelle Pingley led the Raiders with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
South Range (2-4, 1-1 ICL) led 33-19 at halftime.
Abbey Kiger had team-highs of 14 points and nine rebounds for Mineral Ridge (2-5, 0-2).
Springfield 62, Jackson-Milton 35
NORTH JACKSON -- Lindsay Johnson scored 15 points for Springfield.
Johnson also had 10 rebounds, while Mindy Ritzler had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers (2-2, 2-0 ICL).
Christy Warren scored 10 points for Springfield, which led 27-12 at halftime.
Megan Whitmer and Elizabeth Hughes scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Jackson-Milton (1-3).
Maplewood 53, Mathews 39
CORTLAND -- Stephanie Schwartz scored 23 points to lead Maplewood, while Jessica Schwartz had 11 points.
Jennifer Grayson added six rebounds for the Rockets (4-1), while Leah Dean had four steals and Brittney Bolinger had seven assists.
Tara Ford scored 21 points for Mathews (3-1).
Brookfield 54, Sharpsville 40
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Jacki Rust scored 18 points and Morgan Bonekovic added 12 for Brookfield (3-1).
Bonekovic also had 10 rebounds, while Raquel Brenner had two assists.
Sharpsville (2-1) was led by Kasey Gardner with 15 points, and Kaila Gainos, with 12.
Pymatuning Valley 48, Badger 37
KINSMAN -- Pymatuning Valley led the Northeast Athletic Conference game by three points with three minutes remaining.
The Lakers (4-0, 1-0) made 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch, while Badger (1-5, 0-1) was 2-for-9.
Michelle Lautner had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Py Valley, while Nikki Hazelett had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Samantha Bonar and Christy Stahl scored nine points each for Badger. Tessa Bonar had nine rebounds.
