The total cost of the project is $12 million.
LAKE MILTON -- The Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer's Office will have a meeting with Milton Township residents from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday to discuss the update on a water project around Lake Milton.
The meeting will be at the American Legion Hall on Milton Avenue. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and other officials will be available to address concerns of the residents within the project limits and to secure necessary signatures for easements.
The project includes the extension of waterlines and sanitary sewer lines to service properties situated around the lake bounded by Northeast River Road, Southeast River Road, Ellsworth Road, County Line Road, and the lake shoreline, said Joseph Warino, county sanitary engineer.
The county currently treats raw water pulled from subsurface wells located in Craig Beach village and distributes water to about 850 village customers. The proposed project includes the abandonment of the wells and village treatment plant.
The water supply would come from Meander Reservoir through a bulk-water purchase agreement in effect between the county and the city of Youngstown.
600 new households
Warino said the project will add about 600 new households to the system. The sewer project will extend sanitary sewer lines to unsewered areas around the lake adding about 400 new households to the treatment system.
Wastewater will be treated at the county-owned and operated Craig Beach Water Pollution Control Facility, located on Grandview Avenue, Warino added.
The total project cost of $12 million includes funding from USDA, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Ohio Public Works Commission and county sales tax revenue.
The estimated start date is spring 2005 with completion tentatively set for fall 2007.
Projects included in the overall total project cost and currently nearing completion include the elevated water tower on Mahoning Avenue in North Jackson, and three miles of 12-inch waterline also along Mahoning Avenue from Newton Falls Road west to Northeast River Road, Warino said.
