HIT-AND-RUN CASE Vehicle's owner charged

The woman's sentence was put on hold to ensure her cooperation.
NILES -- A woman who owns an SUV involved in an August hit-and-run accident that severely injured a girl was questioned by police and charged with making a false police report about the vehicle having been stolen.
Warren police report that Raheema Wright, 34, of Summit Street, Warren, was interviewed by Niles police, then arrested by Warren officer Mike Stabile on a warrant charging falsification and obstructing official business.
Stabile said Wright had filed a false stolen vehicle report on Aug. 16, the day of the accident. He subsequently interviewed her to follow up on that claim.
"Nothing was falling into place. We could not corroborate anything she was giving to us," he said.
Annie Lee, 11, of Deer Creek Lane, Howland, was struck that day as she crossed U.S. Route 422 at North Road in Niles while walking with her grandmother. She remains hospitalized.
Police continue to look for the driver.
Delayed sentencing
Wright, meanwhile, was arraigned Thursday before Judge Terry Ivanchak of Warren Municipal Court. The obstruction charge was dismissed and she pleaded no contest to falsification for the false police report.
The judge found her guilty but delayed sentencing for 60 days to ensure her further cooperation in the case, Stabile noted.
In September, Niles police said the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run had possibly been found.
Warren police had found the black Mazda sport-utility vehicle with front-end damage on Wick Street Southeast in Warren. The vehicle was towed to Niles to be processed for evidence by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
