BOXING ROUNDUP Salem's McBride joins Gund card

The lightweight will fight on the undercard of the Weber-Castaneda main event.
CLEVELAND -- Salem lightweight "Irish" Davey McBride has been added to Friday night's seven-bout pro boxing card at Gund Arena.
McBride (5-5, 3 knockouts), who is managed by Chuck Nelson and trained by Jack Loew at the Southside Boxing Club, will be attempting to stop a three-bout losing streak in a four-rounder against Matt Horning (2-8, 1 KO) of Dayton.
The main event of the evening will be a 12-rounder between Craig Weber and Rogelio Castaneda for the vacant International Boxing Association light welterweight championship. The only loss for Weber (19-1-1, 10 knockouts), from Perrysville, happened in July 2003 in the Canton Memorial Civic Center, when Castaneda won a 10-round split decision.
Castaneda, from Sacramento, Calif., is 18-10-2 with six knockouts. Weber is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision victory over world ranked lightweight Angel Manfredy at Gund Arena April 16.
In a women's heavyweight 10-rounder, Vonda Ward (13-1), from Macedonia, will battle Marsha Valley (10-9-4) from Toronto.
Ward, a former standout basketball player at Tennessee, recently suffered her first pro loss when she was stopped in the first round of a title defense in Biloxi, Miss., by Ann Wolfe.
A super featherweight eight-rounder will have southpaw Chad Wright (11-3) from Galion, in the ring with Daniel Maldonado, from Henderson, Ky., who is 15-0. Wright has nine knockouts and Maldonado has eight.
In a six-round lightweight bout, Cleveland's Shawn Bailey (5-0) will battle Leo Martinez (3-1, 1 KO) from Columbus. Martinez is coming off a majority decision over McBride in a six-rounder at the Byzantine Center at The Grove November 24.
Fifty dollar ringside seats, reserved seats at $35 and general admission seats for $25 are available.
This is a Moneysworth Production promotion with Tom Vacca the promoter and matchmaker.
Amateur show
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jack Loew and Tank DiCioccio of the Youngstown Southside Boxing Club will hold an amateur show Dec. 17 at the Teen Scene in the Wedgewood Plaza, 1743 Racoon Road.
"It is an old, but new place for boxing," said Loew. "Amateur boxing will be re-invigorated at this place with five shows planned for 2005."
The doors will open at 6 p.m. with the first bout at 7:30. Ticket prices will be $10 for general admission and $15 for reserved seats. For more ticket information call Loew at (330) 501-5713. The card will be finalized within a week, but as of now Austintown fight fans will have a pair of good amateurs on the show in Fitch High graduates Ron Puzzuolo and Mike Sackela.
Puzzuolo, a 152-pounder with a 3-1 record, fights for Loew at the Southside Boxing Club, and Sackela, also a 152-pounder with a 6-2 record, is trained by John Hobart and trains at the Buckeye Elks in Youngstown.
Also from the Southside Boxing Club will be 135-pounder Chris Hazimihalis (11-1) from Campbell, 125-pounder Charlie Fagin (7-3) and 95-pounder Juan Salinas (13-3), who was a National Silver Gloves Junior Olympic runner-up in Kansas last year.
Also on the card will be Akron's Shawn Porter, a 152-pound World Junior Olympic champion. Making a Junior Olympic 75-pound amateur debut will be Jake McBride, the younger brother of "Irish" Davey McBride.
"We will match everybody up well and we should have at least a 12-bout card," said Loew.
