YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown City Heath District has 90 doses of juvenile influenza vaccine that it will sell Monday on a first-come, first-served bases. Wayna Hightower, nursing director for the district, said the vaccine will be available only to Ohio residents from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at a cost of $10. Woman reportedly raped
YOUNGSTOWN -- No details were gathered by police from a possible rape victim Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Health Center because she was being prepared for emergency surgery for a brain aneurysm and unable to provide information. Police used other means to piece the events together. The 48-year-old Victor Avenue woman was reportedly raped around noon at a house in the 1400 block of Stewart Street.
Man charged in crash
YOUNGSTOWN -- John H. Rogan, 87, of Bears Den Road was arrested at 6 p.m. Tuesday on charges of failure to control and leaving the scene after his car struck a utility pole in the 2100 block of Gregory Avenue on the West Side. The impact caused a power outage that affected surrounding neighborhoods. The pole broke in half and hung over the street. The transformer was also down and wires hung from at least six houses. A witness described the car, a silver Lincoln, and got its license number. The witness said the driver, an elderly man, got out, then got back in the Lincoln and sped off. Police tracked the Lincoln, by its registration, to Rogan's house and saw it in the garage with damage to the roof, front end and windshield. Both airbags had blown. Police said Rogan acknowledged to them that he had struck the pole.
Pizzeria burglarized
AUSTINTOWN -- A television, a computer system and an unspecified amount of cash were stolen during a burglary at Inner Circle Pizza on Mahoning Avenue. The restaurant's take-out window was pried open and smashed to gain entry between 10:10 p.m. Monday and 8:06 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Decorations stolen
AUSTINTOWN -- Three large inflatable outdoor decorations -- an 8-foot "Tigger," a 4-foot Mickey Mouse and a 4-foot Christmas tree -- were taken from a lawn on Amberly Avenue early Tuesday, police reported. Police said they believe a band of youths is responsible for that theft and several others of outdoor decorations here and in nearby communities over the past several days. Residents with outdoor decorations have been urged to check their yards frequently and call police if they see anything suspicious.
Medical worker arrested
AUSTINTOWN -- A Pennsylvania woman working as a medical technician at a nursing home was arrested Wednesday and accused of taking money from a purse belonging to one of the residents. Julianne M. Weaver, 39, of Donation Road, Greenville, was charged with theft after she was reportedly caught on a videotape taking an envelope containing $35 from a purse, police reported. Police said the theft occurred at 5:48 a.m. in a resident's room at the Meridian Arms Living Center, South Meridian Road. Weaver, who was involved with testing blood at the nursing home, was released on undisclosed bond, pending an appearance today in Mahoning County Court here.

SALEM -- Township Police Chief Dan Valentine and Leetonia Police Chief John Soldano will bus tables at Mason's Steak House and Lounge on Saturday to benefit the Caring and Sharing Program sponsored by their departments. Reward for horses
SPRINGFIELD -- A $2,000 reward is being offered for the return of two horses -- Frost and Mason -- who went missing from their pasture. The owner, Juanita McDonnell of Garden Valley Drive, has posted the horses' pictures and descriptions online at www.netposse.com. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Frost or Mason, also known as Mardi Gras, can contact Springfield Township police.
