A.P. O'HORO Company wins award for work

COLUMBUS -- A.P. O'Horo Co. of Youngstown was recognized this week for its outstanding craftsmanship on a construction project in Ohio.
A.P. O'Horo was honored with a 2004 Move Ohio award from the Ohio Contractors Association. The company was presented with the award at OCA's Winter Conference in Columbus.
The Youngstown company won the Structure Category Award for projects costing less than $2 million for its work on the U.S. Route 224 Yellow Creek Bridge in Poland. The bridge was replaced because it could barely handle larger vehicles, let alone pedestrian traffic, and was causing a major eastbound traffic bottleneck because of the transition from four to two lanes.
The bridge passes through Poland, which prides itself on maintaining strict appearance standards, the OCA said.
The project required deck widening and supporting infrastructure, as well as creating a pedestrian walkway, re-grading the roadway leading to the bridge and fabrication of a custom-formed ornamental iron railing.
Despite delays because of fish spawning and unusually wet weather, as well as working with 20 vendors, A.P. O'Horo completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule and still met the aesthetic needs of the community, the OCA said.
